Daily Dose of Protest: Phosphorus – Intellectual Darkwave

When I started the website on December 6th, 2017 the plan was to post a protest song a day. Eventually “Daily Dose” became a misnomer and I was doing well if I did it a couple of times a month. Then eventually I just stopped, and the site focused more on monthly recaps, lists, videos, and other features. The last time I posted a misnamed “Daily Dose” was on July 21, 2023. It was never a plan to discontinue the feature and once again I’m going to attempt to try to post a song a day. Part of the issue was having the time and motivation to complete the writeups. Because of that I’ve decided to become less focused on the writeups and in some cases, the writeups might be limited. Much of the focus will be on newer tunes, but at times will spotlight older songs as well. If you are an indie artist who wants to be featured feel free to email me at christopjamesbaker@gmail.com.

The first “Daily Dose” of the relaunch is “Phosphorus” by Intellectual Darkwave, an artist that was previously featured. Concerning the meaning of the tune I will share what was emailed to me: “It was inspired by an Israeli real estate developer who posted plans for post-genocide beach houses in Gaza. The song imagines a settler living in one of those houses and how their kids, as they grow older and understand the genocide that made their beach house possible, grow to hate their parent for their complicity.”
