&More is a duo made up of rapper Chill Moody and soul singer Donn T. They just released a new video and single “WHOA” which will appear on their upcoming debut full-length album Ethel Bobcat, which is due out April 5, 2019.
The tune begins with an insightful intro by the iconic socially conscious rapper Chuck D. The lyrics go on to address a variety of different topics including issues of systemic racism and police brutality.
The music video features Donn T as a news anchor and Chill Moody as a field reporter for the fictional news channel WHOA News Tonight. The visuals not only effectively satirize the wearisome bombardment of the 24-hour news cycle, but it also incorporates powerful imagery highlighting several social ills.
Donn T, who is also well known for her social activism within the Philadelphia area, explains to NPR’s World Café that the song was motivated by the Angie Thomas novel, The Hate U Give, about a black teenager who became an activist after her friend was murdered by a white cop.
“First time I saw her book’s cover, something resonated,” Donn T says. “My mind finished the phrase, The Hate U Give…’won’t stop and let you think, the love you save, keeps you on the brink.'”
Both the video and tune is a powerful work of social commentary.
