Childish Gambino, just dropped a provocative new single and video “This Is America”. He also performed the tune during his May 5th, 2018 Saturday Night Live performance, where he also hosted the show as his real name Donald Glover. The graphic visuals address issues of gun violence, systemic racism and police brutality. The video alternates between lighthearted somewhat comical dance routines with jarring images of senseless gun violence. This also fits well with the mood of the tune which alternates between joyful chorus and gritty lyrics. This well highlights the difference between the perception and reality of being black in America.
